Since stepping into the role of Executive Director in January 2025, I’ve been inspired every day by the impact the Rancho Foundation has on the lives of patients and families served by our partnership with Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Our mission—to support innovative programs and services that promote healing and recovery—is more vital than ever.
As part of our growth and continued commitment to excellence, we’ve embarked on an exciting rebrand of the Rancho Foundation. This includes the launch of our brand-new website, designed to better reflect who we are, what we do, and how you can be a part of our mission.
This is just the beginning. I’m energized by what lies ahead and honored to lead this next chapter alongside our dedicated board of directors, partners, and supporters like you. Together, we’re building a stronger future—one where every patient has access to the care, hope, and resources they need to thrive.
As we look ahead, I’m filled with excitement for the growth and opportunities on the horizon. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Rancho Foundation this year. Your generosity, commitment, and belief in our mission make our work possible—and help us create lasting impact in the lives of those we serve.
Sincerely,
Andrea Salazar

“There are two types of people in this world: people with disabilities and TABS—Temporary Able-Bodied individuals. A TAB is someone who, for now, is living without a disability, but at some point—through accident, illness, injury, or simply the effects of aging—may experience a disability. The only way to avoid it entirely is to no longer be among the living. My goal is that by the time you reach that stage, society will have evolved so that you won’t face the same barriers and challenges that we have encountered.”
“I am truly grateful for the countless and continued support that the Rancho Foundation has provided over the many many years. From resources and equipment to opportunities for competition and growth, their generosity and commitment have made a powerful impact. Thanks to their unwavering support, we've been able to participate and compete at a high level something that would not have been possible without them. I’ve seen firsthand how this program changes lives. I’ve watched athletes grow, not just in skill, but in self-worth and resilience. Being able to coach in such an environment, one where inclusion, excellence, and passion are at the heart of everything. It is a privilege I do not take for granted. Thank you, Rancho Foundation and Rancho Wheelchair Sports Program, for continuing to invest in our athletes, for supporting our vision as coaches, and for helping us create opportunities that truly matter. Your support makes a difference every single day, and we are honored to be a part of this incredible community. Thank you!!!”
“Elizabeth suffered orthopedic injuries, memory loss, and profound grief following a motor vehicle accident that also claimed the life of her five-year-old grandson." Elizabeth suffered from survivor’s guilt and could not recall the events that occurred during the accident or share about the loss of her grandson. After receiving psychology services and attending the garden group, Elizabeth began to open up about her experience with grief and recalled the events of the accident. She found peace in the garden with her peers through trimming and watering the plants and resuming her favorite occupation to paint and reported that Being present in the group allowed her to “forget” her current circumstances and for the first time she is able to “focus” on the present. As other group members shared their story of loss, Elizabeth has been able to offer and share the resources she utilized to assist her during her healing journey on the loss of her grandson.”
When I turned 50, I experienced two strokes that changed my life. It has been the hardest part of my entire existence! I lost half of my life, literally. Physically, the left side of my body has been paralyzed. Many of my creative skills have been challenging to do, like playing guitar, directing dramas, producing music and videos, among other things I still have a purpose in life, and a lot of dreams and projects I want to accomplish! Attending therapy sessions at Rancho Los Amigos has been a key point to adapting to this new life. I’ve made a lot of friends, have met a lot of interesting doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff with amazing personalities, and overall, a spirit of service. I heard about Becky Stanchfield’s art class from a friend, and from the very first session, something in me changed. Life started to feel more colorful, and full of new possibilities.
“Rancho's driver rehab training program would teach me how to utilize the hand controls and fulfill the DMV's requirements. Since I am a Medi-Cal recipient, I was able to qualify for a $60 The driving instructor was knowledgeable, friendly, and very patient. I was given the skills and confidence I needed to pass my driving exam. This program also connects you with the companies that specialize in vehicle modification for hand controls. I had a great experience with this program and will always recommend it to those with disabilities looking forward to their independence.
"The outdoor activities I've participated in Adaptive Outdoor Adventure (AOA) have had a truly positive impact on me. I've met new people and built meaningful friendships. As a person in a wheelchair, I've started going out more, and I've developed a stronger desire to explore my city. In the past, that would have felt much harder — but not anymore. This program has completely changed my perspective on what life in a wheelchair can be like. I'm so grateful for the experience, and I hope it continues to help others the way it has helped me.
